Go to your games library, right click "Half-Life" go to properties, then click "launch options" copy/paste this in the box (without quotes) "-full -w 1024 -h 600 -freq 60". Simple as that. I will also post this fix to the Guides section, hopefully that's OK. Either that or you use the default screen resolution set on your pc/tower/primary monitor

Right click the game properties in the Steam game library. Then click "set launch options" and put -gl in the launch option line. Click ok, finally start your game. Once you are in the game menu select the proper video mode. Then go back and remove the -gl from the launch options.
