Why pull the timing cover off w/o changing the chain, I thought. Especially since engine clatter had been getting worse lately. First take off all of the rest of the parts mounted on the timing cover. It’s pretty obvious, with only a few points worth mentioning. You should really disconnect the battery before removing the diode board.
